Google giving away Inbox invites until tomorrow morning!

Google gave us a neat infographic showing us how people have been using Inbox, their organizational tool for keeping emails organized and actually doing something with them. Some people love it, others not so much (including me), but we do know most people want to test it.
Today is your chance! Google has also announced they will be offering Inbox invites to everyone for 24 hours. All you have to do is send an email to inbox@google.com from your Gmail account and Google will give you your entrance ticket to the service.
Now, this offer does end Friday (tomorrow) at 9 AM PST, so act quickly!
Opinion: As I have already established, this service didn’t do much for me. I would love to hear what you guys think of it, though. Does Inbox actually help your workflow?

Chrome OS Smart Lock: unlocking your computer with your phone

Google told us all about Smart Lock at Google IO. This feature would grant you the ability to unlock your Chroembook simply by having your smartphone close, ensuring your security and comfort without sacrifices. It has been 7 months since that announcement and today we are finally seeing the update hitting your laptops.
There are some restrictions, so stick around before you go testing and looking for updates. You need to have a phone with Android 5.0 Lollipop and a Chromebook with Chrome OS version 40+, as well as bluetooth. Google has a neat guide on how to use this feature, where they also tell us this won’t work with tablets just yet.
Opinion: You guys need to test this if you can. You won’t believe how convenient it is to not have to worry about passwords and codes when unlocking your devices. This may seem like a trivial issue to many of you, but believe me – it really makes a whole difference. I have been using Dislock, a similar service for phones that allows you to select “trusted” bluetooth devices. The phone bypasses security measures when connected to these. It’s a dream come true.

LG and Qualcomm have fixed Snapdragon 810 issues

Every major tech company has been giving us their quarter earnings numbers. These are always interesting, and LG’s net profits have increased by 125%, but a little something they mentioned in the earnings call has us much more interested.
While LG swore there were no problems with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, it now seems like they weren’t being completely honest. The company claims they did have some issues with the first batch of chips delivered, but both companies have worked on the issue and it is now resolved.
This means both the LG G4 and G Flex 2 will not be suffering from the dreaded problems the chip was said to introduce.
Opinion: I am a fan of Qualcomm chips. The San Diego-based chip manufacturer has been doing an amazing job the past years, so I am glad to see one of my favorite manufacturers sticking around with these quality chips. Let’s just hope they really did fix the problem.

You guys remember the Tesla P85D? It’s that super awesome (and super expensive) car that can drive itself, powered solely by electricity. It also happens to be a darn fast vehicle, and CEO Elon Musk says it will get even faster.
This will be done via an OTA software update that will help the P85D go from 0 to 60 mph in ~0.1 seconds less.

Microsoft said to invest $70 million in Cyanogen

Android is free and open, but it’s no secret that there is quite a bit of small font in their terms. Manufacturers and developers need to abide by certain rules in order to get access to the Google Play Store, Gmail and all other Google services. The only problem is that anyone who wants to make it in this business needs to have those services.
Cyanogen doesn’t like this business model, so they have committed to “take Android away from Google.” This would be done by creating an ecosystem of apps and services that would rid everyone of the need to go with Google. This is a tough fight, but they certainly aren’t alone in it.
The latest rumors say Microsoft is in on this movement. So much that they are willing to invest $70 million in Cyanogen. This would show the world how much Microsoft is willing to fight against the monopoly that Google is becoming.
Opinion: It seems every time we hear about Cyanogen, it’s about how much money they are making. That, and their involvement with OnePlus. Regardless, this would be a very bold move by Microsoft. Do remember these are all rumors, though. Let’s not get too excited yet.
